Application Process

Application Process

Eligibility Criteria

In order to apply for a Steering Group Role you must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

  • You need to be registered formally as an ACAN member

  • You need to over 16 years of age

  • You must not be currently barred from serving as a director (steering group members assume directorship of ACAN’s community benefit society).

We recognise that construction professions and the industry as a whole, are insufficiently diverse and not representative of the wider society which they are supposed to serve. We also recognise that the climate crisis intersects with inequalities and crises of exclusion.

ACAN recognises this within its core values, particularly value 9: We value everyone

“including the unique perspective and contribution that each individual brings. We seek to avoid replicating the structural inequities, prejudices and injustices prevalent in our industry and society”

We hope that the make-up of our new Steering Group will embody this value and, as such, would particularly welcome applications/expressions of interest from individuals from underrepresented groups, whether that be in terms of race, religion, social class, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

Application Process

Step 1 - Expression of Interest

Submit an expression of interest for one or more Steering Group positions before the end of Sunday 20th March here.

Step 2 - Consultation Period

Between the dates of 21st March - 10th April 2022, members who have expressed an interest in SG roles will be invited, to a short meeting convened by the current role holder, for each role they have expressed interest in. This will be an opportunity to hear more about what is involved in the particular role(s) and ask questions.

Step 3 - Confirmation of Applications

Members who have submitted expressions of interest must choose no more than one role that they wish to stand for and confirm their application for this role before the end of 10th April 2022, including a 250 word supporting statement. Each application should also be ‘seconded’ by another ACAN member. Applicants may withdraw their candidacy for a role at any time

AGM

Steering Group elections will be held at our AGM on 27th April 2022.

Please see here for long-form description of steering group rotation process.
